Shrewsbury is the
county town of Shropshire and has over 640 listed
building and some very strange street names like
Gullet Passage and Grope Lane!

It takes little exploration on foot to reveal the delights
of this Medieval town:
The river Severn encompasses
almost all of Shrewsbury and at the South-Eastern corner
lies the English Bridge which is described in the Cadfael
books. On crossing it you can see the abbey of St. Peter and
Paul. The Shrewsbury experience is just opposite the abbey
and attempts to recreate part of the abbey lifestyle.
Shrewsbury castle is surrounded by by beautiful gardens and
is open all year round and is well worth a visit

You can admire Shrewsbury’s centuries-old beauty by taking a
river trip or hiring a rowing boat. Or delight in the town’s
magnificent riverside park – home to the world famous
Shrewsbury Flower Show
In town look out for:
-
Shrewsbury shuts and passages, a unique maze
of narrow alleys which criss-cross the town centre.
-
Statue of Charles Darwin outside the library,
he was born here and attended Shrewsbury school which
was then housed in the library buildings.
Shrewsbury is a bustling retail
town centre as well as a place of amazing historical and
fictional interest. Shrewsbury has great shops, especially
the kind of interesting, independent shops that so many
towns have lost or let go.
Of course there are also comfortable indoor shopping malls
with high street names as well as specialists, and good
access for wheelchair users and pushchairs
We would like
to thank Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council for their
kind permission for use of some of the images on this
